Skylights & Roof Windows Fitted by Experienced Roofers
Velux roof windows bring natural light into a home, transforming loft conversions, bedrooms, living spaces and attic rooms with bright, airy conditions that standard windows simply cannot replicate. Whether you are fitting a skylight or roof window into a new roof build or replacing existing units that have aged, leaked or failed, Essex Roofing provides a professional, reliable service you can trust.
Getting a Velux window right is about far more than simply cutting a hole in the roof. The surrounding flashings, the integration with the existing roofing material and the weatherproofing detail around the frame are all critical to a leak-free, long-lasting result. If you are considering fitting skylights, contact a team who has the experience and knowledge to ensure a watertight, neat and professional finish that will last for years to come. Choose Essex Roofing.
Velux Window Installation
Having new Velux windows fitted into an existing or newly built pitched roof requires careful planning and precise workmanship. Our team begins by assessing the roof structure to confirm the correct size and positioning for the windows, taking into account the rafter spacing, the pitch of the roof and the size of the room below.
Once the position is confirmed and any necessary structural work to the rafters is completed, the aperture is cut and the window frame is securely fitted. The surrounding area is then re-tiled or re-slated as appropriate, with a watertight seal between the frame and the roofing material.
Properly fitted flashings are essential to preventing water ingress around the frame, and this is an area where we pay particular attention on every job.
Replacing Existing Velux Units
If you have existing roof windows that are leaking, showing signs of seal failure or have simply reached the end of their serviceable life, a replacement is often the most cost-effective and reliable solution. Older units can suffer from condensation between the panes, stiff or broken mechanisms, and deteriorated seals that allow water to penetrate around the frame.
We assess the condition of both the window unit and the surrounding flashing and roofing material before any replacement work begins. In many cases the surrounding tiles, slates and flashings also need attention, and our team will carry out all necessary remedial work as part of the replacement to ensure the finished result is fully weathertight. We work with the Velux range to find the right replacement unit for your roof and discuss your options with you clearly before proceeding.
Getting the Detail Right
The difference between a Velux window installation that performs well over many years and one that causes ongoing problems almost always comes down to the quality of the installation detail. Water has a habit of finding its way through the smallest gap, and every element of the fitting process from the flashing kit to the tile integration needs to be executed with care and precision.
At Essex Roofing, our team has extensive experience fitting and replacing Velux roof windows across a wide range of roof types and pitches. We understand the common failure points and take the time to get every detail right, giving you a roof window that performs as it should from day one.
